Since we are working in website and web application design and development, we deal with different situations and challenges. However, one challenge we do not want to face is issues with hosting provider. What would you do if your website or the awesome web application is down for most of the time? Does it really make sense?

Here is what you can do:

Before you buy any hosting solution, check out what people are saying about them. You can do a Google search like “Hosting provider name + review”. You may also try searching for the hosting provider’s name in networks like Twitter or ask someone at FaceBook. You may also try different websites that offer honest reviews of providers to find a reliable website host or ask at different webmaster’s forums that discuss hosting issues and different deals. But what makes a web host reliable? There are different perimeters like uptime, years in business, server specifications according to your need, ssl access, customer support, community, knowledge base etc.

Another very important issue one must consider is when to go for shared hosting and when to go for a VPS hosting provider! If you are running a personal blog or website or starting up, you may consider shared hosting. It is much cheaper compared to VPS hosting. Joining WebPrachar with my whole team

Now here is an awesome news. I am joining WebPrachar, a Kolkata based website design, development and online marketing company as a designer. I knew some of them personally and when they gave me the offer I was almost sure that I want to join the team. But after visiting their place and meeting other team members, I was 200% sure about the proposal. So, now, I am merging my small team with WebPrachar to do something bigger. And my team members are sooo happy.

Life as a designer at WebPrachar is going to be a bit different. They follow an awesome designing process driven by the marketing strategy – need of the market and the owner. It is more about understanding the basic business requirements of the client and offering him a designing solution that would generate more business.

I really liked their idea of six month design contract where they make sure that the design is acting as an active agent to generate more sales (or the target). If necessary they are ready to completely redesign the website for free. It is about adding value to client’s bottom line. Their vision is simple - “no design is perfect and you can never dream the best design. You need to test and improve it to fit the need of end users and business logic”.

Do you remember the story I told about my alcoholic friend who had lost his leg in an accident due to drunk driving! This had been a learning experience for a lot of people in our friend circle.

But the price is undoubtedly too high. We often neglect things unless it hurts some dear people. And the biggest problem in these situations is that the addicted person does not understand that he or she is loosing so many things from his life until it is too late or something similar happens in the process.

After the accident, I had been to a local alcohol rehab center. After visiting that place I understood that the problem is too big and it is not easy to get out of the habit in your present setup unless you have great will power. And if someone is addicted to Drug, the problem is much bigger. I would say that it is a great risk to keep the person at home, even if you are too confident to cure him. Please, do not take the risk – send him to a good drug treatment center.

After my personal visit, we (the extended friends circle – some of them are more addicted to alcohol than my friend), visited Cliffside Malibu again to make them aware about the problem and alcohol and drug rehab program. They had some exciting success stories to share with us.

Some friends of my immediate friends must get admitted there (hey.. I know you are reading this post). Live a life man – you are too good to waste it for nothing. If you want to donate your life, donate it to the society rather than alcohol and drug.

Need a laptop and printer toner

I need a new laptop – I really need one. The main reason to have it is to utilize the time I spend on my journey to office and getting back home. Come on, the process takes more than 3 hours everyday – and it is just a big wastage of time. I prefer working on Photoshop rather than sitting ideally with my iPod. And, so many great ideas (seems like great) often clicks on the route that I only wish I had a laptop with me!

However, I have tried Photoshop on Laptop only a few times – that was not a great experience though. However, in this case, I am helpless. This wastage of time is really bothering me.

Anyways, a lot of people asked me to create some headers on computer related products. I could not find enough time to create some. Therefore, here is one for all of them.

By the way, I am also planning to add something more to my office desktop like Lexmark Printers, Scanners etc.

I also need to buy some Printer Toner for my home. Why?

I never worked on offline materials like Flyers. Some days back a good friend asked me to create some flyers for him – and I love it. However, something that seems beautiful in your monitor or web may seem horrible in a piece of paper. my toner is empty now – I need more - lol.

What happens when you put a frog into boiling water?

It jumps out because it cannot endure the heat.

However, what happens when you when you put a frog into normal water and start boiling it? It starts enduring the heat and do not immediately jump out of it. After some time it will die out there without understanding how it died.

In this situation, you must take the initiative to take it out of the boiling water to save a life. Maybe it is a fake story, but you would find many frogs around you.

The same thing happens with Drug or Alcohol addictions. The person does not understand that he or she is going to die soon due to the addiction. What is your duty in this situation? Take him to a nearby rehabilitation center or consult a good doctor for drug treatment.

A few days back I almost lost a dear friend due to over consumption of alcohol. We were supposed to take him to a local drug rehab center, but just before the appointed date, he met a dangerous accident while drunk driving. He has lost his leg. Perhaps he would now leave drinking at the cost of a leg.

I have heard that there are many drug rehab centers that work well to bring people back to mainstream life. And it is our duty to perform the task of bringing the frog out of the boiling water.

I am a social drinker and I never overdo it in any situation. After his death, I have promised that I would not touch it again. I would even give up smoking (I have been trying it for a long time – but I could not manage it). Nevertheless, this time I would do it for sure.

Those days are gone when you needed to work hard on editing HTML code to place an image in the header section. That annoying job is bypassed in new blogger. Just follow these simple steps to place an image in blogspot header.

Dashboard > Template > Page Element > Header (Just below the Navbar) > Click on Edit Button > Browse the image in your PC and Upload > Save

You are almost done with new Header.

Now click again on the edit > A new browser will open as usual where you will find Blog Title, Blog Description, Image and Placement. In the placement section, you will find two sub sections:

Behind title and description
Instead of title and description

Click on Instead of title and description and save changes.

You are all ready with a fresh looking beautiful blog.

A Note: If you are clicking on Instead of title and description, that does not mean that your blog do not have any of them. They are only kept hidden from the visitors. This will also help you a lot from SEO perspectives.
